With over two decades of experience in media and communication education, she dedicates herself to empowering marginalized communities to challenge and dismantle the stereotypes perpetuated by mainstream media.
Currently a PhD candidate in Teaching, Learning & Technology at Lehigh University, Ortiz’s research centers on the experiences of Black and Latina woman and girls in media, focusing on how they navigate representations of race, gender, sexuality, and class.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Ortiz is the co-owner and marketing director of Cactus Blue Mexican Restaurant (@cactusbluemexican), where she merges her expertise with community engagement, supporting local nonprofits and fostering connections within the community.

A champion for inclusive marketing strategies with Faces International, Tyrone assists organizations in creating strategic frameworks to increase inclusion while enhancing tools and experiences that decrease institutional and personal biases that impact culture and day-to-day operations. Formerly, he has served as the Coordinator of Racial and Ethnic Justice with the Community Action Agency of the Lehigh Valley, and as the Director of Multicultural Affairs at Lehigh University. Tyrone continues to execute cultural realization sessions and diversity trainings throughout the region for corporations and school districts.
